2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Randolph County completed the 2017 season with a 13-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region five, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. The Tigers won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 3A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Hillcrest Evergreen at the Alabama Super Seven 26-14 in Auburn. The defense was very stingy last season as Randolph County ranked 40th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.1 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Tigers have gone 23-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Randolph County has gone a combined 65-29. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Randolph County has managed to compile a record of 164-110. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 3A and 92nd in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Pat Prestridge who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 102-44 over the past twelve seasons at Randolph County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won one region crown with Coach Prestridge. Coach Prestridge led Randolph County to a state championship in 2003. Coach Prestridge's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 119-67 (64.0%). His 119 wins rank 41st among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Prestridge's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won one region championship. The Randolph County Tigers will play in Class 3A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 3A but move from region five over to region six. The Tigers enter the 2018 season riding a 7 game regular season winning streak. The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Notasulga on Friday, August 31 at Hulond Humphries Stadium. Last year the Notasulga Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region three. The Blue Devils lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 54-0. Randolph County and Notasulga have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 4-3-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 1995 with Notasulga winning by a score of 14-9. Randolph County returns 3A All-State running back Aaron Knight. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
