2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sipsey Valley completed the 2017 season with a 4-7 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region four, the Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Sipsey Valley's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 17-0. It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Bears qualified for the playoffs. The Bears have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2018. Sipsey Valley was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bears want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.5 points a game. Since 2010, the Sipsey Valley football program has struggled with a record of 22-61. The Bears are led by head coach Scott Marchant who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-24 over the past three seasons at Sipsey Valley. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Marchant. Coach Marchant's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 35-52 (40.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Marchant's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship. The Sipsey Valley Bears will play in Class 4A region three during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Bears remain in 4A but move from region four over to region three. The Bears will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season. The Bears open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Holt on Friday, August 24. Last year the Holt Ironmen finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 4A region four. The Ironmen closed out the regular season with a loss to Brookwood by a score of 60-6. Sipsey Valley and Holt have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Bears have a 10-0-0 record against the Ironmen. They last met in 2017 with Sipsey Valley winning by a score of 35-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
