2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sumter Central finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Sumter Central finished sixth in Class 5A region three with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Jaguars have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Sumter Central averaged scoring just 11.6 points a game. The Jaguars also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 42.2 points a game. The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Sumter Central is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only seven seasons. They have managed a record of 13-57 over the past seven years. The Jaguars are led by head coach Shannon Felder who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Sumter Central. The Jaguars saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Felder arrived. The Jaguars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Felder. Coach Felder's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 69-62 (52.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Felder's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won two region championships. The Sumter Central Jaguars will play in Class 4A region three during the 2018 season. The Jaguars may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region three this year. With a little luck and some improvement, the Jaguars could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season. Sumter Central has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2011 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Jaguars open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Woodlawn on Friday, August 24 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Woodlawn Colonels finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 5A region five. The Colonels closed out the regular season with a loss to Parker by a score of 76-0. Sumter Central and Woodlawn have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 0-2-0 record against the Colonels. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
