2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
West Morgan completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. Last year West Morgan captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Rebels since the 2002 season. West Morgan reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Sylvania by a score of 48-21. The Rebels won as many games as in any season since 2008. Since 2010, West Morgan has gone a combined 28-55. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 4A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, West Morgan has managed to compile a record of 159-107. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 4A and 100th in the AHSAA. The Rebels will be under the direction of new head football coach Mikel Riggs as they enter the 2018 season. The West Morgan Rebels will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2018 season. The Rebels move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Rebels enter the 2018 season riding a 7 game regular season winning streak. The Rebels should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Rebels open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Ardmore on Friday, August 24 at Cooper Field. Last year the Ardmore Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in seventh place in Class 5A region eight. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over West Limestone by a score of 34-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot. West Morgan and Ardmore have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 21-9-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1999 with West Morgan winning by a score of 50-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
