2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Autaugaville finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Autaugaville finished sixth in Class 1A region three with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Autaugaville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 51.7 points a game. The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, Autaugaville has gone a combined 40-63. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 29 seasons, Autaugaville has managed to compile a record of 141-131. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 1A and 145th in the AHSAA. The Eagles will be under the direction of new head football coach Javaris Jackson as they enter the 2018 season. Coach Jackson's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 13-47 (21.7%). The Autaugaville Eagles will play in Class 1A region four during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 1A but move from region three over to region four. It will be an uphill battle for the Eagles if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, Autaugaville will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. Autaugaville simply does not have the numbers to be competitive on the football field at this time. With just 66 students, the Eagles are one of the smallest schools playing the game and have little chance of being successful. The Eagles open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Holy Spirit on Friday, August 24 at Arthur Howington Field. Last year the Holy Spirit Saints finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 1A region five. The Saints lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Lynn by a score of 22-14. Autaugaville and Holy Spirit have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 5-3-0 record against the Saints. They last met in 2013 with Autaugaville winning by a score of 68-6. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
