2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Catholic completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Catholic captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Knights since the 1989 season. Catholic reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to UMS-Wright by a score of 28-14. The Knights won as many games as in any season since 1989. The defense was very stingy last season as Catholic Montgomery ranked 23rd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 12.2 points a game. Since 2010, Catholic has gone a combined 35-47. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 4A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Catholic has managed to compile a record of 104-141. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 4A and 259th in the AHSAA. The Knights are led by head coach Aubrey Blackwell who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 22-11 over the past three seasons at Catholic. Under his direction the Knights have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Blackwell. Coach Blackwell's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 22-11 (66.7%). The Catholic Knights will play in Class 4A region two during the 2018 season. The Knights enter the 2018 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak. The Knights should be considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Knights open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Tallassee on Friday, August 24 at J.E. Hot Obrien Stadium. Last year the Tallassee Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in second place in Class 4A region three. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Bibb County by a score of 41-16. Catholic and Tallassee have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Knights have a 1-3-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1957 with Tallassee winning by a score of 25-6. Catholic returns 4A All-State defensive lineman CJ Person.
