Cedar Bluff completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. Last year Cedar Bluff captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-0 record. Cedar Bluff reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to South Lamar by a score of 21-14. The Tigers had some tough luck last season as three of their four losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, Cedar Bluff has gone a combined 64-31. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cedar Bluff has gone a combined 193-95. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 2A and 47th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Jonathan McWhorter who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 101-45 over the past twelve seasons at Cedar Bluff. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Tigers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season. The Tigers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Spring Garden on Friday, August 31 at Bruce Field. Last year the Spring Garden Panthers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 1A region six. The Panthers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Pickens County by a score of 51-9. Cedar Bluff and Spring Garden have met a total of 50 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 43-7-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2017 with Cedar Bluff winning by a score of 34-7. Cedar Bluff returns 1A All-State offensive lineman Ethan Teague.
