 2018 Preview 


       Clarke Prep finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-8 record. With their 1-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class AA region two, the Gators earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Clarke Prep's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Macon-East Academy by a score of 28-24.

       The defense allowed a team record 371 points last season.

       Since 2010, Clarke Prep has gone a combined 57-39. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class AA over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Clarke Prep has managed to compile a record of 173-102. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class AA and 7th in the AISA.




       The Gators will be under the direction of new head football coach Jimmy Hicks as they enter the 2018 season.

       The Clarke Prep Gators will play in Class AA region two during the 2018 season.

       Region two will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. This season, the Gators will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two.

       The Gators open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Wilcox Academy on Friday, August 24 at Wildcat Field. Last year the Wilcox Academy Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class A region two. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Clarke Prep by a score of 47-14.

       Clarke Prep and Wilcox Academy have met a total of 33 times on the football field. The Gators have a 19-14-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2017 with Clarke Prep winning by a score of 47-14.

       Clarke Prep returns AISA All-State  defensive lineman Dylan Thomas. He was named to the first team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Bart Starr received coaching from Kentucky great Babe Parilli his senior season at Sidney Lanier in hopes of joining Bear Bryant at Kentucky. He had to settle for Alabama.
