Crenshaw Christian completed the 2017 season with a 8-4 record. With their 3-1 region record and a second place finish in Class A region one, the Cougars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Last year Crenshaw Christian reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Patrician Academy team by the score of 27-20. The Cougars had some tough luck last season as three of their four losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, Crenshaw Christian has gone a combined 53-38. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Crenshaw Christian has managed to compile a record of 159-107. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class A and 11th in the AISA. The Cougars will be under the direction of new head football coach Wayne Grant as they enter the 2018 season. The Cougars should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Cougars open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Pike Liberal Arts on Friday, August 24 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in fourth place in Class AAA region two. The Patriots lost in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs to Tuscaloosa Academy by a score of 28-6. Crenshaw Christian and Pike Liberal Arts have met a total of 26 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 10-15-1 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2005 with Pike Liberal Arts winning by a score of 36-13. Crenshaw Christian returns AISA All-State athlete Drew Gipson. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Cougars also return offensive lineman Justin Hall. He was named to the honorable mention team.
