Escambia Academy completed the 2017 season with a 12-1 record. With their 3-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AA region two, the Cougars earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. The Escambia Academy Cougars claimed the AISA-AA State Championship by defeating Autauga Academy 30-20 in Troy.

No team at Escambia Academy ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The 520 points scored by the Cougars last year were a team record in a single season.

Since 2010, Escambia Academy has gone a combined 66-32. Their 67.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class AA over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Escambia Academy has managed to compile a record of 135-132. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class AA and 21st in the AISA. Their last losing season was 2010.

The Cougars are led by head coach Hugh Fountain who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 54-20 over the past six seasons at Escambia Academy. Under his direction the Cougars have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Fountain. Coach Fountain has won two state championships at Escambia Academy, the last coming in 2017.

Coach Fountain's overall record as a head football coach in thirty season stands at 213-122 (63.6%). His 213 wins rank 2nd among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Fountain's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-two times and won three region championships.

The Escambia Academy Cougars will play in Class AA region two during the 2018 season.

Escambia Academy enters the 2018 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at Bachelor Field.

The Cougars enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November. The Cougars have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2010 and this year should be no exception.

The Cougars open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Snook Academy on Friday, August 24 at Bachelor Field.

This will be the first meeting between Escambia Academy and Snook Academy on the football field.

Escambia Academy returns AISA All-State  quarterback Jabe Dawe. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
