 2018 Preview 


       Evangel Christian Alabaster completed the 2017 season with a 9-2 record. With their 4-0 region record and a place finish in Class 8 Man region one, the Lightning earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Evangel Christian Alabaster has gone a combined 78-17. Their 82.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 8 Man over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 14 seasons, Evangel Christian Alabaster has gone a combined 128-34. Their 79.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 8 Man and 1st in the . Their last losing season was 2006.




       The Lightning are led by head coach Tim Smith who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 9-2 record in his first season at Evangel Christian Alabaster. Under his direction the Lightning have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith. Coach Smith led Evangel Christian Alabaster to a state championship in 2017.

       Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 96-93 (50.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won one region championship.

       Region one will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season.

       The Lightning enter the 2018 season riding a 6 game winning streak. Evangel Christian Alabaster has won 11 consecutive region games. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Evangel Christian Alabaster has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season.

       The Lightning open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Kingwood Christian on Friday, August 24 at Ron Cox Field. Last year the Kingwood Christian Lions finished with an overall record of 1-10 and in sixth place in Class AA region one. The Lions lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Autauga Academy by a score of 49-6.

       Evangel Christian Alabaster and Kingwood Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Lightning have a 1-1-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2016 with Evangel Christian Alabaster winning by a score of 20-8.
