2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Florala finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-6 record. Last year Florala finished seventh in Class 1A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2007 season and would love to end that streak this year. Florala had a very good offense last year, scoring 34.0 points per game, but it couldn't keep up with a defense that gave up 46.4 points per game. The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-14 record. Since 2010, Florala has gone a combined 26-50. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 1A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Florala has managed to compile a record of 107-142. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A and 253rd in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Scott Mason who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-6 record in his first season at Florala. The Wildcats saw improvement from a 0-8 record the season before coach Mason arrived. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Mason. Coach Mason's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 18-22 (45.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Mason's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Florala Wildcats will play in Class 1A region two during the 2018 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent St. Michaels on Friday, August 24 at Matthews Stadium. This will be the first meeting between Florala and St. Michaels on the football field. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
