Fultondale completed the 2017 season with a 11-1 record. The Wildcats cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Fultondale captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Fultondale reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Randolph County by a score of 35-28. No team at Fultondale ever won more games in a season than the eleven victories last year. The 527 points scored by the Wildcats last year were a team record in a single season. The high-scoring Fultondale offense ranked 8th in the AHSAA. They averaged 43.9 points a game. The Wildcats defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 20th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 11.6 points a game. Since 2010, Fultondale has gone a combined 64-29. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Fultondale has managed to compile a record of 128-134. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 3A and 198th in the AHSAA. The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Don Dover as they enter the 2018 season. The Fultondale Wildcats will play in Class 3A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 3A but move from region six over to region five. The Wildcats enter the 2018 season riding a 10 game regular season winning streak. The Wildcats should be considered one of the favorites for the region five championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Wildcats have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2010 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Maplesville on Friday, August 31 at Wildcats Field. Last year the Maplesville Red Devils finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 1A region three. The Red Devils lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 26-21. Fultondale and Maplesville have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 0-2-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in with Fultondale returns 3A All-State linebacker Jalen Sims. He was named to the first team last season. The Wildcats also return athlete Jayson Jones. He was named to the first team.
