Macon-East Academy completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Macon-East Academy captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class AA playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Knights since the 2000 season. Last year Macon-East Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Escambia Academy team by the score of 50-13. The Knights improved in 2017 with their first winning season since 2012. The Knights won as many games as in any season since 2000. The Knights hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Lott saw improvement as they won ten games following a 2-7 record in 2016. Since 2010, Macon-East Academy has gone a combined 34-51. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class AAA over the past eight seasons. Over the past 22 seasons, Macon-East Academy has managed to compile a record of 139-102. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class AAA and 12th in the AISA. The Knights are led by head coach Glynn Lott who is entering his twenty-third season at the helm. Region two will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Knights will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season. The Knights open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Hooper Academy on Friday, August 24 at Knight Field. Last year the Hooper Academy Colts finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fifth place in Class AAA region two. The Colts ended last season on a positive note with a win over Evangel Christian Academy by a score of 53-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Macon-East Academy and Hooper Academy have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Knights have a 17-7-0 record against the Colts. They last met in 2017 with Macon-East Academy winning by a score of 6-0. Macon-East Academy returns AISA All-State receiver Brock Taunton. He was named to the second team last season. The Knights also return defensive lineman Colby Jordan. He was named to the second team. The Knights also return offensive lineman Connor Higbe. He was named to the honorable mention team. The Knights also return defensive back Ethan Honaker. He was named to the second team. The Knights also return athlete JC Ceman.
