2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Marengo Academy finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class A region two, the Longhorns earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Marengo Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Chambers Academy by a score of 43-0. Marengo Academy took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011. The Longhorns lost as many games as in any season since 2011. The Longhorns hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just two games which followed a 11-1 record in 2016. Since 2010, Marengo Academy has gone a combined 57-34. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Marengo Academy has managed to compile a record of 151-118. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class A and 14th in the AISA. The Longhorns will be under the direction of new head football coach David Akins as they enter the 2018 season. The Marengo Academy Longhorns will play in Class A region two during the 2018 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Longhorns if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. After just 2 wins last year, Marengo Academy will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Longhorns open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Jackson Academy on Friday, August 24 at McCorquodale Stadium. Last year the Jackson Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class AA region two. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Lakeside by a score of 35-34. Marengo Academy and Jackson Academy have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Longhorns have a 20-7-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2015 with Marengo Academy winning by a score of 45-6. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
