2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oak Grove finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Oak Grove finished sixth in Class 4A region four with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Oak Grove was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.0 points a game. Since 2010, Oak Grove has gone a combined 33-48. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Oak Grove has managed to compile a record of 126-124. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 4A and 187th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Pat Burchfield who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-13 over the past two seasons at Oak Grove. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Burchfield. Coach Burchfield's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 7-13 (35.0%). The Oak Grove Tigers will play in Class 4A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 4A but move from region four over to region five. The Tigers enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region five this season. The Tigers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Walter Wellborn on Friday, August 24 at The Hill. Last year the Walter Wellborn Panthers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 3A region five. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to White Plains by a score of 18-0. Oak Grove and Walter Wellborn have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 0-2-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
