 2018 Preview 


       Opp completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Opp finished sixth in Class 3A region two with a 4-3 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Opp took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2013. The Bobcats hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 9-2 record in 2016.

       Since 2010, Opp has gone a combined 51-37. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 3A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Opp has managed to compile a record of 134-127. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 3A and 168th in the AHSAA.




       The Bobcats are led by head coach Brent Hill who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 30-16 over the past four seasons at Opp. Under his direction the Bobcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Hill.

       Coach Hill's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 30-16 (65.2%).

       The Opp Bobcats will play in Class 3A region two during the 2018 season. The Bobcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-45 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 3A and 30th in the AHSAA.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Bobcats could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Opp came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Bobcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Elba on Friday, August 31 at Channell Lee Field. Last year the Elba Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 2A region three. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Leroy by a score of 48-20.

       Opp and Elba have met a total of 87 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 46-41-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Elba winning by a score of 30-18.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Clay County shutout an amazing eleven opponents in 1996. The Panthers outscored their opponents 613-42 finishing the season 15-0.
