 2018 Preview 


       Paul Bryant completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region four, the Stampede earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Paul Bryant's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sidney Lanier by a score of 21-20.

       No team at Paul Bryant ever won more games in a season than the six victories last year. The Stampede had some tough luck last season as four of their five losses were by less than eight points.

       Since 2010, Paul Bryant has gone a combined 31-53. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 15 seasons, Paul Bryant has not won much with a record of 46-108. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 6A and 338th in the AHSAA. The Stampede have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time.




       The Stampede are led by head coach Eldrick Hill who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-25 over the past four seasons at Paul Bryant. Under his direction the Stampede have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hill.

       Coach Hill's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 17-25 (40.5%).

       The Paul Bryant Stampede will play in Class 6A region four during the 2018 season.

      

       The Stampede open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Tuscaloosa on Friday, August 24 at Falcon Stadium. Last year the Central Tuscaloosa Falcons finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 5A region three. The Falcons closed out the regular season with a loss to Northridge by a score of 33-26.

       Paul Bryant and Central Tuscaloosa have met a total of 21 times on the football field. The Stampede have a 12-9-0 record against the Falcons. They last met in 2017 with Paul Bryant winning by a score of 28-15.

Bart Starr received coaching from Kentucky great Babe Parilli his senior season at Sidney Lanier in hopes of joining Bear Bryant at Kentucky. He had to settle for Alabama.
