Slocomb completed the 2017 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region two, the Red Tops earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Slocomb's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to American Christian by a score of 38-0. Slocomb was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Red Tops want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.3 points a game. Since 2010, Slocomb has gone a combined 48-39. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Slocomb has managed to compile a record of 124-140. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 3A and 226th in the AHSAA. The Red Tops are led by head coach Richard Tisdale who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 9-12 over the past two seasons at Slocomb. Under his direction the Red Tops have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Tisdale. Coach Tisdale's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 9-12 (42.9%). The Slocomb Red Tops will play in Class 3A region two during the 2018 season. The Red Tops will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season. The Red Tops open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Cottonwood on Friday, August 31 at Hicks Stadium. Last year the Cottonwood Bears finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 2A region two. The Bears closed out the regular season with a loss to Daleville by a score of 48-42. Slocomb and Cottonwood have met a total of 40 times on the football field. The Red Tops have a 14-25-1 record against the Bears.
