 2018 Preview

Southside completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region three, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Southside's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Clarke County by a score of 56-8.

The 354 points scored by the Panthers last year were a team record in a single season. The Panthers last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Since 2010, Southside has gone a combined 28-54. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 3A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Southside has managed to compile a record of 86-159. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 3A and 310th in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Daniel Flowers who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 24-38 over the past six seasons at Southside. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Flowers.

Coach Flowers' overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 24-38 (38.7%).

The Southside Panthers will play in Class 3A region three during the 2018 season.

The Panthers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

The Panthers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Northview on Friday, August 24 at Rip Hewes Stadium. Last year the Northview Cougars finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 6A region two. The Cougars closed out the regular season with a loss to Charles Henderson by a score of 14-7.

This will be the second meeting between Southside Selma and Northview on the football field. The Panthers have a 0-1-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in with
