2018 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sparta Academy finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-10 record. The defense allowed a team record 423 points last season. The Warriors last playoff victory came during the 1997 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The Warriors would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-19 record. Since 2010, Sparta Academy has gone a combined 32-56. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sparta Academy has managed to compile a record of 101-154. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class A and 30th in the AISA. The Warriors are led by head coach Justin Chandler who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-28 over the past four seasons at Sparta Academy. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Chandler. Coach Chandler's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 16-28 (36.4%). The Sparta Academy Warriors will play in Class A region one during the 2018 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Warriors if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just a single win last year, Sparta Academy will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Warriors open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Lowndes Academy on Friday, August 24 at Stuart McGehee Field. Last year the Lowndes Academy Rebels finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fourth place in Class A region one. The Rebels lost in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Patrician Academy by a score of 28-20. Sparta Academy and Lowndes Academy have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 6-10-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2017 with Lowndes Academy winning by a score of 41-8. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
