 2018 Preview 


       Spring Garden completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region six, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Spring Garden reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Pickens County by a score of 51-9.

       Since 2010, Spring Garden has gone a combined 49-39. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Spring Garden has managed to compile a record of 102-147. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A and 267th in the AHSAA.




       The Panthers are led by head coach Jason Howard who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 73-69 over the past thirteen seasons at Spring Garden. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Howard.

       Coach Howard's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 78-84 (48.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Howard's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times .

       The Spring Garden Panthers will play in Class 1A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 1A but move from region six over to region five.

       The Panthers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Panthers open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Cedar Bluff on Friday, August 31 at Bruce Field. Last year the Cedar Bluff Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in first place in Class 1A region six. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to South Lamar by a score of 21-14.

       Spring Garden and Cedar Bluff have met a total of 50 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 7-43-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Cedar Bluff winning by a score of 34-7.

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
