2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
St. James completed the 2017 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region two, the Trojans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. St. James reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Andalusia by a score of 30-8. The 440 points scored by the Trojans last year were a team record in a single season. Since 2010, St. James has gone a combined 54-34. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, St. James has managed to compile a record of 150-115. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 3A and 116th in the AHSAA. The Trojans are led by head coach Jimmy Perry who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 42-25 over the past six seasons at St. James. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Perry. Coach Perry's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 107-57 (65.2%). His 107 wins rank 53rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Perry's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won seven region championships. The St. James Trojans will play in Class 3A region three during the 2018 season. The Trojans may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 4A to 3A. They will compete in region three this year. The Trojans enter the 2018 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak. The Trojans should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Trojans open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Bayside Academy on Friday, August 24 at Freedom Field. Last year the Bayside Academy Admirals finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 3A region one. The Admirals lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Montgomery Academy by a score of 26-13. St. James and Bayside Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field.
