2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Zion Chapel finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Zion Chapel finished sixth in Class 2A region three with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rebels have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Rebels last playoff victory came during the 1979 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Zion Chapel averaged scoring just 10.5 points a game. The Rebels also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.6 points a game. Since 2010, the Zion Chapel football program has struggled with a record of 22-59. Over the past 25 seasons, Zion Chapel has not won much with a record of 68-171. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 2A and 345th in the AHSAA. The Rebels have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Rebels are led by head coach Randy Bryant who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Zion Chapel. The Rebels have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bryant. Coach Bryant's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%). The Zion Chapel Rebels will play in Class 2A region three during the 2018 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Rebels if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just 2 wins last year, Zion Chapel will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Rebels open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Red Level on Friday, August 31 at Crystal Spring Park. Last year the Red Level Tigers finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 1A region two. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Ariton by a score of 36-0. Zion Chapel and Red Level have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 3-1-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2011 with Zion Chapel winning by a score of 35-29. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
