2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hayden finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Hayden finished seventh in Class 5A region six with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Wildcats lost as many games as in any season since 2014. The Wildcats hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just one game which followed a 6-5 record in 2020. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Hayden averaged scoring just 10.3 points a game. The Wildcats also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 35.3 points a game. Since 2010, Hayden has gone a combined 49-76. Their 39.2% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hayden has managed to compile a record of 91-166. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 48th in Class 5A and 322nd in the AHSAA. The Wildcats are led by head coach Keith Register who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 37-58 over the past nine seasons at Hayden. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Register. Coach Register's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 84-109 (43.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Register's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times . The Hayden Wildcats will play in Class 5A region five during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 5A but move from region six over to region five. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. The Wildcats open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent J.B. Pennington on Friday, August 19 at Robert W. Reid Stadium. Last year the J.B. Pennington Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in third place in Class 3A region six. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Fyffe by a score of 43-14. Hayden and J.B. Pennington have met a total of 34 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 8-25-1 record against the Tigers.
