 2022 Preview 


       Wicksburg completed the 2021 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region two, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Wicksburg's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Trinity by a score of 51-23.

       Since 2010, Wicksburg has gone a combined 64-62. Their 50.8% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Wicksburg has managed to compile a record of 128-136. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 2A and 214th in the AHSAA.




       The Panthers are led by head coach Josh Cox who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 52-35 over the past eight seasons at Wicksburg. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Cox.

       Coach Cox's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 52-35 (59.8%).

       The Wicksburg Panthers will play in Class 2A region two during the 2022 season. The Panthers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region two this year.

       The Panthers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season.

       The Panthers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Houston Academy on Friday, August 19 at Westgate Park. Last year the Houston Academy Raiders finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 3A region two. The Raiders lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 56-7.

       Wicksburg and Houston Academy have met a total of 47 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 21-26-0 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2021 with Wicksburg winning by a score of 23-14.

       Wicksburg returns 3A All-State Senior running back Jaylen Murry. He was named to the second team last season.
