2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Williamson completed the 2021 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region one, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Williamson's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to American Christian by a score of 41-12. Williamson took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2016. Since 2010, Williamson has gone a combined 52-74. Their 41.3% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Williamson has managed to compile a record of 146-132. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 5A and 172nd in the AHSAA. The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach Antonio Coleman as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Coleman served as an assistant coach for the lions in 2021. The Williamson Lions will play in Class 5A region one during the 2022 season. The Lions move up in classification to Class 5A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. With a little luck and some improvement, the Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season. The Lions open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Mary Montgomery on Friday, August 19 at Grider Field. Last year the Mary Montgomery Vikings finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in ninth place in Class 7A region one. The Vikings closed out the regular season with a loss to Theodore by a score of 47-7. Williamson and Mary Montgomery have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Lions have a 5-3-0 record against the Vikings. They last met in 2009 with Williamson winning by a score of 38-13. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
