2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cold Springs finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Cold Springs finished seventh in Class 2A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles lost as many games as in any season since 2011. The defense allowed a team record 423 points last season. The Eagles last playoff victory came during the 1993 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Cold Springs averaged scoring just 6.1 points a game. The Eagles also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 42.3 points a game. The Eagles would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Cold Springs has gone a combined 42-82. Their 33.9% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cold Springs has not won much with a record of 82-174. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 2A and 339th in the AHSAA. The Eagles will be under the direction of new head football coach Brendan Voce as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Voce served as an assistant coach on the staff at Cold Springs last season. The Cold Springs Eagles will play in Class 2A region five during the 2022 season. The Eagles enter the 2022 season in the middle of a 13 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Eagles will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Cold Springs will be to simply win some games. The Eagles open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Curry on Friday, August 19 at Eagle Stadium. Last year the Curry Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 4A region five. The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with a loss to West Point by a score of 69-20. Cold Springs and Curry have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 3-1-0 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 1977 with Curry winning by a score of 22-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
