2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jeff Davis completed the 2021 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Jeff Davis just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 7A region two with a 1-5 region record. The Volunteers last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Jeff Davis was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Volunteers want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.6 points a game. Since 2010, Jeff Davis has gone a combined 42-82. Their 33.9% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 7A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Jeff Davis has managed to compile a record of 111-146. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 7A and 260th in the AHSAA. The Volunteers are led by head coach Rory Bell who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-15 over the past two seasons at Jeff Davis. The Volunteers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bell. Coach Bell's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 5-15 (25.0%). The Vols have not won a playoff game since 2003. The once proud program could possibly have a shot at one this season. The Jeff Davis Volunteers will play in Class 7A region two during the 2022 season. The Volunteers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-38 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 7A and 11th in the AHSAA. Region two will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Volunteers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Jeff Davis has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2017 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Volunteers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Wetumpka on Friday, August 19 at Hohenburg Field. Last year the Wetumpka Indians finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 6A region three. The Indians lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Saraland by a score of 37-7. Jeff Davis and Wetumpka have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Volunteers have a 2-5-0 record against the Indians. They last met in 2011 with Jeff Davis winning by a score of 21-23. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
