2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Shades Valley finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Shades Valley just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region five with a 3-3 region record. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Shades Valley averaged scoring just 9.9 points a game. Since 2010, Shades Valley has gone a combined 54-75. Their 41.9% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 6A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Shades Valley has managed to compile a record of 114-158. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 6A and 267th in the AHSAA. The Mounties are led by head coach Reuben Nelson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Shades Valley. The Mounties have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Nelson. Coach Nelson's overall record as a head football coach in sixteen season stands at 117-71 (62.2%). His 117 wins rank 47th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Nelson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won five region championships. Coach Nelson won a state championship at Ramsay in 2016. The rebuilding continues at Shades Valley for Coach Nelson who won a state championship at Ramsay in 2016. He is in hopes the process continues this year. The Shades Valley Mounties will play in Class 6A region six during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Mounties remain in 6A but move from region five over to region six. With a little luck and some improvement, the Mounties could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. Shades Valley came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Mounties open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Stanhope Elmore on Friday, August 19 at Foshee-Henderson Stadium. Last year the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 6A region three. The Mustangs ended last season on a positive note with a win over Smiths Station by a score of 31-25 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Shades Valley and Stanhope Elmore have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Mounties have a 2-2-0 record against the Mustangs. They last met in 2019 with Stanhope Elmore winning by a score of 26-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
