 2023 Preview 


       Alabama Christian completed the 2022 season with a 8-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region three, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Alabama Christian reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Pike County by a score of 41-39.

       The 497 points scored by the Eagles last year were a team record in a single season.

       The high-scoring Alabama Christian offense ranked 19th in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, Alabama Christian has gone a combined 66-77. Their 46.2% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Alabama Christian has managed to compile a record of 124-145. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 3A and 224th in the AHSAA.




       The Eagles are led by head coach Michael Summers who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-8 over the past two seasons at Alabama Christian. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Summers. The Eagles have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-44 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 3A and 8th in the AHSAA.

       The Eagles should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2015 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2023.

       The Eagles open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Catholic Montgomery on Friday, September 1 at Catholic Field. Last year the Catholic Montgomery Knights finished with an overall record of 13-1 and in first place in Class 4A region two. The Knights lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Andalusia by a score of 29-26.

       Alabama Christian and Catholic Montgomery have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 23-20-0 record against the Knights. They last met in 2022 with Catholic Montgomery winning by a score of 61-7.

       Alabama Christian lost 3A All-State  receiver Preston Hicks to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Also graduating was teammate athlete Corey Landers.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
