2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Asbury finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Asbury finished seventh in Class 3A region seven with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rams have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Rams have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2023. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Asbury averaged scoring just 12.0 points a game. The Rams also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 48.7 points a game. The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Asbury is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only seven seasons. They have managed a record of 6-64 over the past seven years. The Rams will be under the direction of new head football coach Matt Harris. as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Harris who has spent his entire teaching and coaching career at Asbury High School, has been handed the reins of the Rams football program. This season, the Rams will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. The Rams open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Gaston on Friday, August 25. Last year the Gaston Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 2A region six. The Bulldogs ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brindlee Mountain by a score of 50-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Asbury and Gaston have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Rams have a 1-6-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Gaston winning by a score of 64-42. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
