2023 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Autauga Academy finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. With their 2-5 region record and a sixth place finish in Class AAA region one, the Generals earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Autauga Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Morgan Academy by a score of 40-30. The Generals hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 13-0 record in 2021. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Autauga Academy has gone a combined 116-39. Their 74.8% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AAA over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Autauga Academy has finished a combined 214-80. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AAA and 2nd in the AISA. The Generals have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. The Generals are led by head coach Trey Dunbar who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Autauga Academy. Under his direction the Generals have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Dunbar. The Generals enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Generals open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Edgewood Academy on Friday, August 25 at Generals Field. Last year the Edgewood Academy Wildcats finished with an overall record of 6-6 and in second place in Class AA region one. The Wildcats lost in the semi-finals round of the Class AA playoffs to Patrician Academy by a score of 42-14. Autauga Academy and Edgewood Academy have met a total of 41 times on the football field. The Generals have a 29-12-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Autauga Academy winning by a score of 22-7. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
