Carver finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Carver finished seventh in Class 5A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rams last playoff victory came during the 1984 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Carver was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.4 points a game. The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Carver has gone a combined 40-91. Their 30.5% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 23 seasons, Carver has not won much with a record of 61-171. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 54th in Class 5A and 367th in the AHSAA. The Rams are led by head coach Rod Carson who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 29-42 over the past seven seasons at Carver. Under his direction the Rams have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carson. The Rams could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Carver has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2017 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Rams open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Fultondale on Friday, September 1 at Carver High School Stadium. Last year the Fultondale Wildcats finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 4A region six. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a loss to Mortimer Jordan by a score of 35-0. Carver and Fultondale have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Rams have a 2-0-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Carver winning by a score of 56-12. Carver lost 5A All-State athlete Cornelius Jones to graduation.
