 2023 Preview 


       Edgewood Academy completed the 2022 season with a 6-6 record. With their 3-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AA region one, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Last year Edgewood Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Patrician Academy team by the score of 42-14.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Edgewood Academy has gone a combined 115-45. Their 71.9% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AA over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Edgewood Academy has finished a combined 202-94. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AA and 4th in the AISA.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Chad Michael who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 18-16 over the past three seasons at Edgewood Academy. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Michael. Over the course of his career, Coach Michael's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

      

       The Wildcats open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Fort Dale Academy on Friday, August 18 at Fort Dale Stadium. Last year the Fort Dale Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in seventh place in Class AAA region one. The Eagles ended last season on a positive note with a win over Escambia Academy by a score of 35-19 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Edgewood Academy and Fort Dale Academy have met a total of 23 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 12-11-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2022 with Edgewood Academy winning by a score of 21-14.

       Edgewood Academy lost AISA All-State  offensive lineman Bryson Boone to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates receiver Bradley Boone, defensive lineman Wes Reeves and defensive back Austin Champion.

       The Wildcats return AISA All-State Senior defensive back Gabe LeMaster. He was named to the first team last season.
