 2023 Preview 


       Evangel Christian Alabaster completed the 2022 season with a 9-1 record. The Lightning cruised through the regular season with a perfect 9-0 record going into the post season. With their 3-0 region record and a place finish in Class 8 Man region , the Lightning earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Evangel Christian Alabaster's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lighthouse Home School by a score of 999-999.

       Over the past two seasons the Lightning have Finished 22-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Evangel Christian Alabaster has gone a combined 127-27. Their 82.5% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 8 Man over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 19 seasons, Evangel Christian Alabaster has finished a combined 177-44. Their 80.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 8 Man and 1st in the . Their last losing season was 2006.




       The Lightning are led by head coach Tim Smith who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 58-12 over the past six seasons at Evangel Christian Alabaster. Under his direction the Lightning have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith. Coach Smith has won three state championships at Evangel Christian Alabaster, the last coming in 2020. His 145 wins rank 4th among active coaches in the . Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seventeen times and won one region championship.

       Coach Smith needs five wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

       The Lightning enter the 2023 season riding a 12 game regular season winning streak.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Evangel Christian Alabaster has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season.

       The Lightning open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Evangel Christian Academy on Friday, August 25 at Hoover Central Park. Last year the Evangel Christian Academy Lions finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in second place in Class AISA-8 Man region one. The Lions won the Class AISA-8 Man State Championship last season when they defeated Springwood by a score of 38-28 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn.

       Evangel Christian Alabaster and Evangel Christian Academy have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Lightning have a 5-0-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2022 with Evangel Christian Alabaster winning by a score of 48-0.
