 2023 Preview 


       Grissom finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Grissom finished seventh in Class 7A region four with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Grissom averaged scoring just 12.5 points a game.

       Since 2010, the Grissom football program has struggled with a record of 28-103.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Grissom has not won much with a record of 86-172. Their 33.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 7A and 334th in the AHSAA.




       The Tigers are led by head coach Rich Dutton who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-14 over the past two seasons at Grissom. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Dutton. Over the course of his career, Coach Dutton's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

       The Tigers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season.

      Leading the defense will be Cole Porter who collected 8 interceptions last season.

      Also on defense Isiah Lawrence had 102 total tackles and will be back in 2023.

       The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Russellville on Friday, August 25 at Tigers Stadium. Last year the Russellville Golden Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in first place in Class 5A region eight. The Golden Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Pleasant Grove by a score of 37-14.

       Grissom and Russellville have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 1-1-0 record against the Golden Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Grissom winning by a score of 34-21.

       Grissom lost 7A All-State  offensive lineman Steven Crigger to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. Also graduating was teammate defensive back Cole Porter.
