 2023 Preview 


       Hooper Academy finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record.

       The Colts lost as many games as in any season since 2015.

       Since 2010, Hooper Academy has gone a combined 45-92. Their 32.8% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class AA over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Hooper Academy has not won much with a record of 88-172. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class AA and 25th in the AISA.




       The Colts are led by head coach Marty Baker who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-20 over the past three seasons at Hooper Academy. Under his direction the Colts have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Baker.

      

       The Colts open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Fort Dale Academy on Friday, August 25 at Davis Henry Field. Last year the Fort Dale Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in seventh place in Class AAA region one. The Eagles ended last season on a positive note with a win over Escambia Academy by a score of 35-19 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Hooper Academy and Fort Dale Academy have met a total of 33 times on the football field. The Colts have a 13-20-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2022 with Fort Dale Academy winning by a score of 45-14.

       Hooper Academy lost AISA All-State  offensive lineman Cameron Smith to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
