2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Keith completed the 2022 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region three, the Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Keith's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Loachapoka by a score of 28-24. Keith took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2018. The Bears hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just five games which followed a 10-2 record in 2021. Since 2010, Keith has gone a combined 78-65. Their 54.5% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Keith has managed to compile a record of 114-149. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 1A and 252nd in the AHSAA. The Bears are led by head coach Anthony Lumpkin who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 33-23 over the past five seasons at Keith. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Lumpkin. The Bears should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. The Bears open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Bullock County on Friday, August 25 at J.V. Caldwell Stadium. Last year the Bullock County Hornets finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in eighth place in Class 4A region two. Keith and Bullock County have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Bears have a 4-2-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2022 with Bullock County winning by a score of 33-16. Keith lost 1A All-State defensive back Javon Richardson to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
