 2023 Preview 


       Morgan Academy completed the 2022 season with a 7-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a third place finish in Class AAA region one, the Senators earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Last year Morgan Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Glenwood School team by the score of 42-8.

       Since 2010, Morgan Academy has gone a combined 70-73. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AAA over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Morgan Academy has managed to compile a record of 170-115. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class AAA and 10th in the AISA.




       The Senators are led by head coach Danny Raines who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-14 over the past three seasons at Morgan Academy. Under his direction the Senators have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Raines. His 137 wins rank 9th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Raines' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won two region championships.

      

       The Senators open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Patrician Academy on Friday, August 25 at Hannah-Hesselman Field. Last year the Patrician Academy Saints finished with an overall record of 13-0 and in first place in Class AA region two. The Saints won the Class AA State Championship last season when they defeated Clarke Prep by a score of 60-0 in Troy.

       Morgan Academy and Patrician Academy have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Senators have a 2-4-0 record against the Saints. They last met in 2022 with Patrician Academy winning by a score of 48-26.

       Morgan Academy lost AISA All-State  receiver Rhyne Williams to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates linebacker Allen Michael Creech, receiver Allen Lightfoot and punter TB Clements.
