2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sparta Academy finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. The Warriors hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they did not win a game which followed a 9-2 record in 2021. Since 2010, Sparta Academy has gone a combined 49-89. Their 35.5% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sparta Academy has managed to compile a record of 91-168. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class A and 24th in the AISA. The Warriors are led by head coach Arlton Hudson who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-23 over the past four seasons at Sparta Academy. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hudson. His 154 wins rank 8th among active coaches in the AISA. The win total includes 135 wins in Alabama and 19 victories from outside the state. Over the course of his career, Coach Hudson's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won four region championships. The Warriors enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 11 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Warriors open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Monroe Academy on Friday, August 25 at Volunteer Stadium. Last year the Monroe Academy Volunteers finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class AAA region one. The Volunteers lost in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs to Valiant Cross Academy by a score of 30-20. Sparta Academy and Monroe Academy have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 6-18-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 2022 with Monroe Academy winning by a score of 27-0. Sparta Academy lost AISA All-State running back Benji Harrell to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
