 2023 Preview 


       Springwood completed the 2022 season with a 7-4 record. Last year Springwood captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class AISA-8 Man playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Wildcats since the 2001 season. Springwood reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Evangel Christian Academy by a score of 38-28.

       The Wildcats improved in 2022 with their first winning season since 2016. The Wildcats won as many games as in any season since 2014. The Wildcats hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Burch saw improvement as they won seven games following a 1-9 record in 2021.

       The high-scoring Springwood offense ranked 29th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, Springwood has gone a combined 64-77. Their 45.4% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AISA-8 Man over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Springwood has managed to compile a record of 130-140. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class AISA-8 Man and 211st in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Joey Burch who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-4 record in his first season at Springwood. The Wildcats saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Burch arrived. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Burch. Over the course of his career, Coach Burch's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship.

      

       The Wildcats open the 2023 season on the road against region opponent Southern Prep Academy on Thursday, August 24 at Ranger Field. Last year the Southern Prep Academy Fighting Rangers finished with an overall record of 6-6 and in third place in Class AISA-8 Man region one. The Fighting Rangers lost in the semi-finals round of the Class AISA-8 Man playoffs to Evangel Christian Academy by a score of 40-12.

       Springwood and Southern Prep Academy have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 6-1-0 record against the Fighting Rangers. They last met in 2022 with Springwood winning by a score of 40-0.
