2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sumter Central finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-8 record. Last year Sumter Central finished seventh in Class 3A region three with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Jaguars have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. Sumter Central was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Jaguars want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.3 points a game. The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 0-17 record. Sumter Central is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only twelve seasons. They have managed a record of 15-103 over the past twelve years. Over the past 12 seasons, Sumter Central has not won much with a record of 15-103. Their 13.0% winning percentage ranks 58th in Class 3A and 393rd in the AHSAA. The Jaguars have struggled on the football field with no winning seasons during this time. The Jaguars are led by head coach Scottie Jones who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-37 over the past four seasons at Sumter Central. The Jaguars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jones. Over the course of his career, Coach Jones' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Jaguars enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 31 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Jaguars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Sumter Central will be to simply win some games. The Jaguars open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent R.C. Hatch on Friday, September 1 at Bobcat Stadium. Last year the R.C. Hatch Bobcats finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 1A region three. The Bobcats lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Maplesville by a score of 55-8. Sumter Central and R.C. Hatch have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 1-3-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2022 with R.C. Hatch winning by a score of 30-28. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
