 2023 Preview 


       American Christian completed the 2022 season with a 9-3 record. Last year American Christian captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. American Christian reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Andalusia by a score of 31-7.

       Since 2010, American Christian has gone a combined 118-42. Their 73.8% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, American Christian has finished a combined 233-75. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 4A and 14th in the AHSAA. The Patriots have been successful on the football field with twenty-one winning seasons during this time.




       The Patriots are led by head coach Cody Martin who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-5 over the past two seasons at American Christian. Under his direction the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Martin.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, American Christian has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Patriots are considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Patriots have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2014 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

       The Patriots open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Demopolis on Friday, August 25 at Freedom Field. Last year the Demopolis Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 5A region three. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to Faith Academy by a score of 36-15.

       American Christian and Demopolis have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 0-4-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Demopolis winning by a score of 41-16.

       American Christian lost 4A All-State  punter Chance Henderson to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

       The Patriots return 4A All-State Senior linebacker Caleb Lockridge. He was named to the first team last season. The Patriots also return Senior offensive lineman Neal Hodo. He was named to the second team.
