Clarke Prep completed the 2022 season with a 9-4 record. With their 3-1 region record and a second place finish in Class AA region two, the Gators earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Last year the Clarke Prep Gators reached the AISA-AA State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Patrician Academy in the State Championship game 60-0 in Troy. The Gators improved in 2022 with their first winning season since 2015. The Gators won as many games as in any season since 2012. The Gators hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Carlisle saw improvement as they won nine games following a 2-9 record in 2021. Since 2010, Clarke Prep has gone a combined 81-73. Their 52.6% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class AA over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Clarke Prep has managed to compile a record of 179-112. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class AA and 7th in the AISA. The Gators are led by head coach Ashley Carlisle who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-13 over the past two seasons at Clarke Prep. Under his direction the Gators have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Carlisle. Over the course of his career, Coach Carlisle's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won one region championship. Coach Carlisle won two state championships prior to arriving at Clarke Prep, the last coming in 2015 at Abbeville Christian. The Gators open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Jackson Academy on Friday, August 25 at Billy Hamilton Field. Last year the Jackson Academy Eagles finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class A region two. The Eagles lost in the Class A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Lowndes Academy. They final score was 24-8 in Troy. Clarke Prep and Jackson Academy have met a total of 51 times on the football field. The Gators have a 26-25-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2022 with Jackson Academy winning by a score of 22-14. Clarke Prep lost AISA All-State receiver Trace Strickland to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate linebacker Jones Skipper. The Gators return AISA All-State Junior defensive back Connor Bumpers. He was named to the second team last season.
