2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Elberta finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Elberta finished seventh in Class 5A region one with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Warriors have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Warriors have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2023. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Elberta averaged scoring just 10.9 points a game. The Warriors would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Elberta is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only five seasons. They have managed a record of 12-32 over the past five years. The Warriors are led by head coach Nathan McDaniel who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-23 over the past three seasons at Elberta. The Warriors have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach McDaniel. The Warriors have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 69-46 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 5A and 21st in the AHSAA. The Warriors will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Elberta will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Warriors open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Bayside Academy on Friday, August 25 at Freedom Field. Last year the Bayside Academy Admirals finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 4A region one. The Admirals lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 41-13. Elberta and Bayside Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 0-4-0 record against the Admirals. They last met in 2022 with Bayside Academy winning by a score of 14-13. Elberta lost 5A All-State offensive lineman Cason White to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
