2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hackleburg completed the 2022 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region eight, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Hackleburg's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Coosa Christian by a score of 51-8. Since 2010, Hackleburg has gone a combined 95-53. Their 64.2% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hackleburg has managed to compile a record of 166-113. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 1A and 93rd in the AHSAA. The Panthers are led by head coach Rod Hudson who is entering his fifteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 109-54 over the past fourteen seasons at Hackleburg. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times. They have won five region crowns with Coach Hudson. His 109 wins rank 53rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. This could be one of the best Hackleburg squads in a few seasons as the Panthers return Blaise Vickery to the starting lineup at QB. The Panthers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. Junior QB Blaise Vickery will be returning after completing 136 of 218 passes for 1,943 yards last season along with 22 touchdowns. Receiver Jaquan Reeder will return after catching 30 passes good for 496 yards and 8 TDs as a sophomore last season. The defense will be led by Junior Garrett Pennington this season after collecting 90 total tackles last season. The Panthers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Phil Campbell on Friday, August 25 at Parrish Stadium. Last year the Phil Campbell Bobcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 3A region eight. The Bobcats lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Madison Academy by a score of 49-28. Hackleburg and Phil Campbell have met a total of 90 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 51-38-1 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2022 with Phil Campbell winning by a score of 36-8. Hackleburg lost 1A All-State receiver Daniel Cooper to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
