2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
J.A.G. finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year J.A.G. finished seventh in Class 7A region two with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Jaguars last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. J.A.G. was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Jaguars want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.6 points a game. Since 2010, J.A.G. has gone a combined 45-89. Their 33.6% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 7A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, J.A.G. has managed to compile a record of 107-148. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 7A and 266th in the AHSAA. The Jaguars are led by head coach Rory Bell who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-22 over the past three seasons at J.A.G.. The Jaguars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bell. A new school name, mascot and team colors will all be on parade as the season opens for the Jaguars in 2023. The Jaguars will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. The Jaguars open the 2023 season at home against region opponent Opelika on Thursday, August 31 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Opelika Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 7A region two. J.A.G. and Opelika have met a total of 29 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 14-15-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Opelika winning by a score of 35-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
