 2023 Preview 


       Jackson Academy completed the 2022 season with a 12-1 record. The Eagles cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Jackson Academy captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class A playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-0 record. Last year the Jackson Academy Eagles reached the AISA-A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Lowndes Academy in the State Championship game 24-8 in Troy.

       No team at Jackson Academy ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 2011.

       Over the past two seasons the Eagles have Finished 22-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Jackson Academy has gone a combined 91-60. Their 60.3% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson Academy has managed to compile a record of 138-137. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class A and 20th in the AISA.




       The Eagles will be under the direction of new head football coach Danny Powell as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Powell has had a stellar coaching career over the past forty years and will take over at Jackson Academy in hopes of continuing their recent success on the gridiron. His 177 wins rank 4th among active coaches in the AISA. Over the course of his career, Coach Powell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seventeen times and won nine region championships. He has a 42-11 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Powell won six state championships prior to arriving at Jackson Academy, the last coming in 2011 at Jackson.

       The Eagles enter the 2023 season riding a 13 game regular season winning streak. Jackson Academy has won 9 consecutive region games. They have won 14 straight games on their home turf at McCorquodale Stadium.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Jackson Academy has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season.

       The Eagles open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Clarke Prep on Friday, August 25 at Billy Hamilton Field. Last year the Clarke Prep Gators finished with an overall record of 9-4 and in second place in Class AA region two. The Gators lost in the Class AA State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Patrician Academy. They final score was 60-0 in Troy.

       Jackson Academy and Clarke Prep have met a total of 51 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 25-26-0 record against the Gators. They last met in 2022 with Jackson Academy winning by a score of 22-14.

       Jackson Academy lost AISA All-State  offensive lineman Walker Whitehead to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates defensive back Cameran Thomas and linebacker Harley Dixon.

       The Eagles return AISA All-State Senior linebacker Zander Jordan. He was named to the second team last season. The Eagles also return Junior quarterback Huntley Dees. He was named to the honorable mention team. The Eagles also return Senior defensive back Chuck Richardson. He was named to the honorable mention team.
