 2023 Preview 


       Locust Fork completed the 2022 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region six, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Locust Fork's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Tuscaloosa Academy by a score of 42-28.

       The Hornets won as many games as in any season since 2016. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Hornets qualified for the playoffs. The Hornets last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Locust Fork has gone a combined 59-76. Their 43.7% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Locust Fork has managed to compile a record of 112-150. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 2A and 253rd in the AHSAA.




       The Hornets are led by head coach Billy Adams who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-11 over the past two seasons at Locust Fork. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Adams.

       Locust Fork could be returning the most talent in the region and Coach Adams will have the Hornets ready once the season begins.

       The Hornets have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region six this season.

       The Hornets open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Appalachian on Friday, August 25 at James E. Carr Stadium. Last year the Appalachian Eagles finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 1A region seven. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Addison by a score of 66-22.

       Locust Fork and Appalachian have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 14-2-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2022 with Locust Fork winning by a score of 58-32.
